the absence of
fear, but the ability

Justice - Dead by Jury
I watched her stand with ease and grace
To tell the tale etched in his face
The story of a man whose fate
Was sealed by greed by men I hate.

I watched her tell of such deceit
Fire helped achieve this feat.
They burned at night that none could see
Just how deadly air could be.

The warriors told how creosote
Was death wrapped in a money coat
That those who ran the corporate till
Stayed far away from the deadly swill.

The man sat stoic as he could
The man that fought – he thought he should.
His wife beside him – arms around
The lawyer’s heart began to pound.

Because she could not let him down
She knew that justice would abound
The jury knew her tale was true
They listened and they clearly knew.

Her cause was true, her heart was pure
Justice, this time, would endure.
She finished then went back to place
Herself in the safe embrace

Of fellow warriors and the man
Who held his tears back with his hand.
The truth was finally known by all
And she could let her guard now fall.

The case was in the jury’s hands
And where better should it stand?
Two hours more we would believe
That justice is what he’d receive.

The call that told us we had lost
Can’t be expressed in simple word.
Justice trampled, torn and tossed.
We can’t believe what we have heard.

Greed, corruption and deceit
Have justice, honor, and truth beat.
I don’t know how to hold my head.
Today it seems Justice is dead.
